Host Your Special Event at Anderson House

Highlights

This Beaux Arts mansion, located on Washington’s Embassy Row only two blocks from Dupont Circle, lends events a Gilded Age elegance unlike any other site in the area. The home was built for this purpose for Ambassador Larz Anderson III and his wife, Isabel Weld Perkins Anderson, who hosted lavish galas here for Washington’s social and political elite from 1905 through 1937. These parties were the highlights of the social season.

The Olmsted Gallery
This space on the second floor was used by the Andersons as a promenade, where guests would stroll to dinner from a formal reception area. Still adorned with the Andersons’ collection of sixteenth-century Flemish tapestries, the gallery may be used today as a pre-dinner gathering space for cocktails or as a setting on its own.

The Ballroom
The first-floor ballroom, an elegant space for formal dining or dancing, was envisioned by the Andersons as a setting to impress visitors from abroad. The Steinway grand piano that was designed for the space remains in place today and is available to be played during your event.

The Hoyt Garden
This small oasis in the middle of the city, which once led to the Andersons’ stables and tennis courts, still features some of the Andersons’ original statuary. There is also a reflecting pool and a white marble patio, where, weather permitting, a bar can be set up for your guests.
